Bobbin work with Trish Stuart

Bobbin Work with Trish Stuart
Monday, January 21, 10 am to 1 pm $29.95
  1. Machine that can drop the feed dogs for free motion work.
  2. Free motion foot
  3. Empty Bobbins  - We will wind the bobbins in class.
  4. Heavyweight threads for the bobbin
  5. Neutral or matching thread for the top - with appropriate needle.  For instance if I am using a 30 wt thread I would probably use an 80/12 needle.  If I were planning to use a 50 wt thread I would drop to a 75/10 needle size.
  6. Spring hoop or the machine embroidery hoops that are created for hand work (They are not as thick as a regular wooden hoop but these are harder to find)
Bring an assortment of threads in colors you want to work in.  I recommend green for foliage, and flower colors. Suggestions for the threads:
  • 12 wt cotton thread from Sulky
  • WonderFil Glamore thread
  • WonderFil 8 wt, or 5 wt threads
  • YLI Candlelight thread
  • YLI Pearl Crown Rayon
  • Ricky Tim's Razzle Dazzle by Superior Threads
  • Decor Madeira
  • 1/8" wide ribbon is acceptable.
In  the workshop you will be following the line drawings. This is not a thread painting class.  That is for a future workshop.  This is to show you how to create impact by using heavyweight threads in your bobbin, stitching from the wrong side of your project.
Basic sewing supplies are needed:
  1. Quilting gloves if you like using them
  2. snips
  3. pins can be helpful sometimes
  4. small crochet hook to pull the thread to the wrong side of your project is helpful
  5. If you like to tilt your work area bring your door stop wedges
  6. Some machines use a special bobbin casing that is already set for working with heavy weight threads. If you have this, please bring it.
  7. You must have the screw driver to adjust the tension on the bobbin casing.
  8. Make certain to bring your manual so you can look up how to use your machine if necessary
